David Carmona claims he is “going to go out and push for the knockout” of Kal Yafai. The 25-year-old has only stopped nine of his 31 opponents to date but is confident of implementing a game plan to upset the WBA ‘super’ super-flyweight world champion, at the Save Mart Arena, Fresno, in the early hours of Sunday morning, live on Sky Sports.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum wants to keep Ancajas busy in 2018 by fighting him 4 times. He’ll need to keep Ancajas busy as possible for him to help build up his name to make him the next Manny Pacquiao. Apart from the mandatory defenses that Arum has no control over, it appears that he’s going to try and turn him into a star by matching him against beatable opposition rather than the best like he did with Pacquiao. To get Ancajas to that level where Pacquiao once occupied at the top of boxing, it’s going to require a lot of skillful match-making by Arum. It would be good if Arum is open-minded about taking some risks with Ancajas by having him float among divisions to move up to bantamweight to take on the likes of Zolani Tete, Luis Nery, Shinsuke Yamanaka and Naoya Inoue. Those are the kinds of fights Ancajas needs to take his career to the next level. Can’t afford to protect Ancajas like a mother hen protecting a baby chick.
I’m going to go out and push for the knockout. What better way than crowning yourself as world champion with a knockout?
“If it is given I will look for it, but I will make it clear in the 12 rounds that I will be the winner.”
Yafai will be making his American debut this weekend, and the third defence of the crown he won against Luis Concepcion in December 2016.
